We are now in the second month of the new year, juggling with our busy schedules while trying to find time to live up to our New Year resolutions. Lose weight, eat right, save money, travel more, get a new job, phew! The list just goes on. Most of us, whether intentionally or not, make a note to ourselves to try something new or do things differently in the new year.
But why wait for the new year to do something? What’s with the fad of New Year resolutions? A trend that gets popular at the end of each year and never fails to phase out early in the new year.
Why not make a resolution whenever a thought strikes you? Why can’t today be the day to begin. If you want a change, act upon it immediately, don’t wait for a new year or a Monday or a new month to do so.
The reasons for this could be many, but the crux of this is procrastination – an art that we as individuals have mastered in time. We find an excuse to procrastinate and convince ourselves that now may not be the right time and a later day will be better to get things done. To cite an example, getting fit or losing weight is ranked high on the New Year’s resolution list. So will the weight loss happen sooner if started on January 1st than say November 17th? If anything, it may get a lot more difficult after all the extra pounds, have been accumulated – courtesy, Christmas sweets.
Similarly, procrastination in everyday life and your workplace, leads to a great deal of loss – may not always be monetary, but loss of time, resources, etc. In the world that we live in today, everything around us is fast, convenient and on the go. It is, therefore, amusing that we still continue to procrastinate in our daily lives.
Brands too are leaving no stone unturned to make life easier and convenient for their customers. From an easy drive through to free home delivery, from online shopping to web based learning tutorials – there is a customized product or service to suit everyone’s fancies. XOPO for example, is a very convenient app that allows you to send money to anyone on your Facebook, Whatsapp, WeChat or contact list. Gone are the days when you needed your beneficiary’s bank account details to transfer money, with XOPO you just need to send money and let your beneficiary fill in the required details. It’s simple, secure and most importantly, convenience at your fingertips.
So whether its completing a task, losing weight or sending money to your family, there is no better time than now as ‘Procrastination is the thief of time‘ – Edward Young
