October 7th, 2016

Singapore

What makes a country an ideal destination for expats? Singapore holds the answer to that question. For the second year in a row, Singapore has ranked first in a survey of expat destinations in the world. For nearly 27,000 expats in 190 countries, Singapore is the best place to live, work and raise a family abroad, as per the ninth edition of HSBC Holding Plc’s annual Expat Explorer report.

Although Singapore didn’t rank first in every category, it consistently scored high across all categories.

Economy

In Singapore, expats earn on average about $139,000 annually, which is 43 percent more than the global average. Although not on top of the list in terms of average income, expats in Singapore are very assured and confident about the economy of the country.

Quality of Life

Singapore scored fourth place in terms of quality of life with New Zealand leading the charts. In terms of safety, expats voted Singapore the second safest place to live. More than eight out of 10 expats feel safer in Singapore than back home.

Career Prospects

More than six in ten expats working in Singapore feel that it is a great place in terms of career growth. About 58 percent feel that it’s an ideal place to start a business, beating the global average of 38 percent.

Family and Education

Although Sweden remains the best place for families abroad, Singapore held the third place in terms of family and education. Singapore’s education is rated the best in the world. 75 percent of expats living there feel that the quality of education in Singapore is better than in their own country.

Singapore is a vibrant country with a diverse expat population from various countries. With its futuristic infrastructure and great lifestyle, Singapore is truly a global destination. Will it score as the top destination for a third time in 2017? We’ll keep our eyes on that.
